Transparency International New Zealand is governed by a Board of Directors of up to 14 persons elected by Members at the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Directors are appointed for two years.

 

The current Directors of the Society are;

Acting Chair: Murray Petrie

 

Murray has worked for the NZ Treasury and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and since 1997 has been a consultant on public management to NZ government departments and International Financial Institutions. Murray is an active member of the IMF's Panel of Fiscal Experts, and a contributor to the International Budget Partnership, a trans-national network of NGOs working for greater budget transparency. He has worked on financial management reform and fiscal transparency in over 20 countries. Murray was a founding member of TINZ

Sefton Darby

Sefton is a Director of S.E.B. Strategy Ltd. He has worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C.; as a policy analyst in the UK Department for International Development; and as an Assistant Director in the UK Cabinet Office. Present clients include the World Bank, the German and British governments, the International Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in Oslo, and the Revenue Watch Institute in New York. His work experience has been largely focused on public sector reform, and more recently on improving transparency and accountability in developing countries with significant oil or mineral resources.

David Macdonald, FCA, QSO

David is currently Adjunct Professor, School of Accounting & Commercial Law, Victoria University of Wellington. He qualified with a Commerce degree in 1963 and was a partner in the international accounting firm Deloitte from 1971 to 1989 in Wellington and from 1990 to 1994 in London. He was Auditor-General of New Zealand from 1995-2002. He is a Member of the audit committees of Ministry of Transport [Chairman] and Statistics New Zealand and was Chairman of an Advisory Panel which looked at Provider Remuneration under the Legal Aid Scheme. He is a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants [NZICA] - (FCA conferred 1985), and is a Member of the Disciplinary Tribunal.

Hon. John Luxton

John entered Parliament in 1987. He held several Ministerial portfolios before deciding not to stand for re-election in 2002. Since leaving Parliament, John has held a number of directorships and is the current Chair of DairyNZ. He is also a founder and director of the Kaimai Cheese Company and a director of the Tatua dairy cooperative.

Trevor Roberts

Trevor is widely recognised as a specialist lawyer in the fields of trade practices, public and administrative law, insurance law, commercial law and charities.  He is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand and is active as an advocate and lobbyist. His principal areas of knowledge are in politics and government, in the provision of financial services and especially insurance and reinsurance, and in overseas investment in New Zealand.   He has had a close involvement with Charities and Trade Associations, and was for eleven years Executive Director of the Insurance Council of New Zealand.  He is a director of public and private companies and served for nine years as Deputy Chairman of the Earthquake Commission.

Rodger Spiller

Rodger is a Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Accountant.  He holds a PhD in business ethics, investment and responsible business and a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours).  Rodger has researched in the ethical investment field for 20 years, been a media commentator on ethical investment, spoken internationally on the subject. He was Executive Director of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development from 2000-2002 and represented New Zealand business at the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development.  He was previously Executive Director of New Zealand Businesses for Social Responsibility that he established with Dick Hubbard and others in 1998.  Since 1998 he has been Executive Director of the New Zealand Centre for Business Ethics and Sustainable Development a research and education partnership between leading tertiary institutions.

Alex Tan

Alex is a Director within PricewaterhouseCoopers' Forensic Services practice. He has spent 9 years with the Royal Hong Kong Police followed by 8 years with the NZ Serious Fraud Office. Alex joined PwC in March 2005. Throughout his career, Alex has advised upon and investigated matters involving corruption, bribery and unethical behaviour. He is currently part of PwC's global team of experts on corruption and has recently delivered anti-corruption training in China to employees of a major multinational corporation facing alleged of breaches of the US Foreign & Corrupt Practices Act.

Hugh Templeton, QSO

Hugh is a former Rhode Scholar and Cabinet Minister (1975-84), having been elected to Parliament in 1969. He is well known for his instrumental role in negotiating New Zealand's Closer Economic Relationship with Australia in 1979-83. A former diplomat, he has extensive experience in the Foreign Service and as a representative for New Zealand to the United Nations.
