Exporting Corruption Report 2018 to release 12 September

Transparency International – the global anti-corruption organisation – and TINZ umbrella organisation – will be releasing the 2018 edition of its Exporting Corruption report on 12 September, 2018.  This report rates countries based on their enforcement against foreign bribery under the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.

Public Trust Survey 2018: Greater trust in Government

Its findings run counter to the decline of trust in democratic political institutions as seen within many countries.

Asked whether they trust the government to do what is right for New Zealand, 65 per cent now answered ‘yes’ compared with 48 per cent in 2016.

New Zealand tops open budget survey again

6 February 2018

New Zealand topped the 2017 Open Budget Index, placed first equal with South Africa with a score of 89 out of 100.  New Zealand was the single best score in both the previous surveys of 2015 and 2012.

The report notes that New Zealand provides limited opportunities for the public to engage in the budget process as is common for all countries surveyed.

Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand Corruption survey involving 1000 New Zealand businesses

A recent survey released by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) looking at corruption faced by Kiwi businesses shows that bribery and corruption rates have risen significantly, both nationally and regionally.

According to the survey, “Only half of New Zealand businesses would report an illegal demand from customers or suppliers.”
