Across the Pacific, decisions about land, oceans and natural resources have significant consequences for communities and future generations. Meaningful participation in those decisions depends on people being able to find, access, understand and use relevant information.
TINZ’s new research examines how access to environmental information works in practice in Fiji and Solomon Islands, identifying barriers and practical opportunities to strengthen access for communities. The research is being launched on 28 September, the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
Researchers Alisi Rabukawaqa, Charley Piringi and Mark Christensen will share findings from the research before opening the talanoa to participants from across the Pacific. The discussion will explore experiences in different countries and communities, what is already working, and what could help people get and use the environmental information they need.
